Exploring Medication Management
Medication management is a key component in successful therapy. It is important to regularly review prescription drugs to verify the need and that the proper dosage has been prescribed.
At Integrative Psychiatric Care, our goal is to continuously evaluate and optimize your medication plan to ensure it remains safe, effective, and aligned with your current needs. As time goes on, your symptoms, health status, and lifestyle can change, and the medications that once worked well may need adjustment. New treatment options may become available, some prescriptions may no longer be necessary, or there may be opportunities to simplify your regimen. In some cases, it may also be appropriate to carefully review and reduce your dosage. We prioritize thoughtful, personalized medication management to support your overall well-being and long-term mental health.
Many over-the-counter products, including herbal remedies and vitamin or mineral supplements, are widely available and often considered harmless. However, when these products are not disclosed, they can sometimes interact negatively with prescription medications, reducing effectiveness or causing unwanted side effects. For this reason, it is important to share a complete list of everything you take—including nonprescription supplements—during your appointments. Open communication helps ensure safe, effective, and well-coordinated medication management tailored to your individual needs.
Steps to Medication Management at IPC
-
During your appointment your provider will review all treatments and prescriptions you are currently taking. With your mental health in mind, this review will allow the provider to make adjustments as needed.
-
Your provider will review all aspects of the benefits or disadvantages of medications in your specific case. Prescriptions can be very significant in easing various mental health conditions, however, if alternatives to medication are possible or desired, your provider will discuss this with you.
